How We Learn

Some people are auditory learners: This means they learn best by listening. Other people are visual learners. These learners need to see or read what they learn. For example, they may need to see a trainer model the position on the bike. Kinesthetic learners needs hands on to learn. They must physically feel the postion on the bike. Movement and repetition are also important to kinesthetic learning. There are other learning types such as verbal, logical, musical and interpersonal. When learning to develop motorcycle riding skills, most people respond best to kinesthetic, visual, or auditory training.

The personality and learning type you are also affects what motivates you. Human motives are complex as people do the same thing for different reasons. What motivates you? (The following are listed by importance)

       Human Motivational Drivers

Self Preservation This is the desire to survive and is associated with security and safety.
Pride This appeal focus on self-esteem and accomplishment.
Personal Enjoyment Why would someone attempt something potentially dangerous? Because this need for personal enjoyment outweighs his/her need for self-preservation.
Love and Affection This drive motivates us to give and receive love, have friends, share activities and seek to help others.
Acquisition and Saving This is the desire for ownership and money.
Adventure and Curiosity This appeal is the need for exploration and may be the reason you chose motocross for your sport.

Hence, if you are a sanguine personality (fast, fun people) and learn best kinesthetically (physically, by touch), and are motivated by pride, you have identified not only what will help motivate you and how to learn, but you have also identified some appeals that you are not concerned with but maybe should be. This is why a trainer is helpful and necessary. A trainer is objective, and can keep you aware that competitive riding involves far more than just riding the bike everyday. With 20/20 Racing Academy you will gain a better understanding why a top athlete needs a personal trainer to perform at the optimal and safest level.

There is a lot of great talent out there but it does not mean a thing if you cannot make the right decisions. That is to say that talent means nothing in the profession of racing unless you make the right choices. You can be smart, talented and know a few things but remember, there are plenty of talented riders out there who will never see the light of day. It takes discipline in your thoughts, actions and choices because racing and winning is nothing but a long shot... that is to say that the top has room for one and only one.

Remember if you do not have the discipline to stay away from the high risk, the gambles or any stupid moves than you too shall fall by the wayside.      Back to the Top
